DMHS Student Takes 1st Place in Speech Competition!
Congratulations to Eric Craig for his outstanding performance at the Lions Club 75th Annual Speech Competition. He won 1st place at the district competition, which brought him a monetary award of $75, and will advance to the next round of the competition. Shine on, Suns!
Academy Update
Our Academy students have enjoyed a wide array of educational experiences this semester, providing career technical education as well opportunities for academic growth, including visits with corporate executives, SEC mentorships, and tutorials from accountants at Ernst & Young. LAUSD is providing parents with gift cards to donorschoose.org to support a school project of their choice. Several teachers at DMHS have listed projects they would like to have funded through donor support. We will be sending the cards home with students on Monday, January 23. Although the state has approved a cut of $248 million dollars from the education transportation budget, Superintendent John Deasy has assured all LAUSD families that school bus transportation will run as normal when we return from winter break.

Calling All Writers! Yearbook Theme Essay Contest!
Break out those typewriters, Suns! Yearbook needs an essay to introduce our 2012 theme “Dreams” in the upcoming yearbook. Two DMHS Teachers Awarded National Board Certification!
We are proud to announce that two of our faculty members, Mr. Daniel Jocz of the Social Studies Department and Ms. Arielle De Paolo of the English Department, were awarded certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards this past week.

Student Voices | Stand Up Against Bullying
Two of our students, David Columbus and Elliott Sitz, were included in a recent KLCS segment of Student Voices | Stand Up Against Bullying. Tune in to KLCS, channel 58 - Friday, Nov 11 at 9:30am; Monday, Dec. 5 at 9:00pm; or Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 6:30pm.
DMHS Suns' David Cruz Takes First Place at LA City XC Finals
Boys Varsity took 3rd place in Small Schools, Alberto Cruz finished 6th and David Cruz finished 1st! GO SUNS!

DMHS Sun Hayley Hoverter Wins GRAND PRIZE at National Youth Entrepeneurship Challenge in New York City!
We proudly announce that DMHS student Hayley Hoverter bested the competition at the National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in New York City on Friday, October 7th.

Her winning business plan for Sweet (dis)Solve centers on tasteless eco-friendly sweetener packets that melt in drinks without creating waste.

Her business plan was awarded the Grand Prize of $10000, as well as the financial backing of prominent investors, including FUBU founder Daymond John from ABC's hit television show Shark Tank. Hayley garnered over $20000 in investments by the end of the day.

Way to go Hayley! Shine on, Suns!

With another strong showing at the Debate Tournament this past weekend, the DMHS Debate Team is solidifying its position as one of the best teams in the LAUSD! Our debaters took home multiple honors. Congratulations to the debaters and their coaches, Ms. De Paolo and Mr. Chao!
